Classic Margaritas

I love a good marg and while I’ve been known to dabble in some fancy/flavored margaritas, nothing quite beats the classic version in my eyes! With Cinco de Mayo coming up, I thought it would be a perfect time to share a recipe!

We’re a family of margarita lovers so while sheltering in place over the past couple of months, we’ve made them pretty much every Friday. It’s safe to say that we’ve perfected the ratio and I’m excited to share!

I don’t like my margs too sweet. Lime-y with a hint of sweetness is ideal in my eyes, so I love this ratio (3 parts tequila – 1 part lime juice – 1 part Cointreau/Triple Sec). If you like yours on the sweeter side, you can up the Cointreau to 2 parts or just add a little bit of agave!

Makes one margarita

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 Tbsp sugar

  • 1 Tbsp salt

  • Ice Cubes

  • 2 oz tequila blanco

  • 1.5 oz lime juice

  • 1.5 oz Cointreau or Triple Sec

  • 1 lime slice

METHOD

  1. Mix the sugar and salt and spread out on a plate. Wet the rim of your glass with a little water or lime juice and dip in the sugar/salt mixture. Fill the glass with ice cubes and place in the freezer while you mix your drink. (Note: the sugar/salt rim is optional – if you don’t like a rim, you can skip that part and just fill the glass with ice!)

  2. Add a handful of ice cubes to a cocktail shaker along with the tequila, lime juice and Cointreau/Triple Sec. Cover with the top and shake vigorously for a minute until the shaker is really cold on the outside and the drink has become frothy.

  3. Strain + pour into your prepared glass, garnish with a lime slice and enjoy!
